Frosting and Fettuccine
Sam Adler / Hollywood, Florida
From upside-down cakes topped with caramelized oranges to waffles speckled with bright freeze-dried strawberries and flaky pies filled with indigo blueberries, Sam Adler’s recipes are homey, indulgent, and entirely inspired by the vivid colors of fresh produce. Sam led a past life as a color coordinator in the fashion industry before reinventing herself as a pastry chef after the birth of her children. In 2016, she left the professional pastry scene to become a full-time blogger for her blog, Frosting and Fettuccine.

“Not many people think about the intersection between color theory and food,” Sam says, “but it’s a great way to challenge yourself to work with flavors you’re not familiar with.” In the summer, Sam did a whole study in the shade of orange, crafting fruit pies with golden crusts and jammy apricot-filled oatmeal bars. In the fall, she worked her way through neutrals, with caramel-drizzled cookie butter biscotti and blondies packed with chocolate chunks, to create autumnal feel-good foods. After a scroll through Sam’s blog, don’t be surprised if you find yourself dreaming (and baking) in color.
Must-Bake from the Blog: “My Coffee Cookies with Chocolate Chunks. I love dunking chocolate chip cookies in my coffee, so this is the best of both worlds. To make them even more delicious, have a cup of joe ready to dip each bite in!”
